Two protected islets and the best snorkelling within easy reach of Palma.

Just off the El Toro headland lie the Illes Malgrats, a pair of low, rocky islets ringed by a marine reserve. Protection means fish — plenty of them — and water clear enough to watch the seabed drop away beneath the boat.
It is our go-to for anyone who wants to actually see something underwater. We anchor in the lee of the islands, hand out the snorkel sets, and the reserve does the rest. The Seabob and paddleboards come out here too. At around 40 minutes each way it sits comfortably inside a half-day, with time to move on to a quieter cove for lunch if the group wants a second stop.
